An idea that came after our meeting
As I listened to the reflections on the Softislab workshop and thought about the question previously raised regarding opposing the capitalist money-for-service model, or at least imagining new strategies for fashion commons, I thought it would be wonderful if we could imagine workshops focused on skill and knowledge exchange— tying back to the idea of creating new educational spaces as well. I'm writing down this thought because I'm afraid I'll forget how to properly formulate it, haha, it could totally be an idea not much worth exploring, and in that case feel free to tell me 😅
Here is a little bit the general idea. Participants would "pay" by contributing something they know how to do—whether in fashion, textiles, cooking, DIY, or any creative skill. You would both learn and teach, participate and listen, while at the same time organising what you'll share with others. For instance, this is something that could work well in Mallorca or Cyprus context, where there are several members of Incursive Fashion Heritage with different labs, studios etc., and where a workshop like this could see good participation. There is not even the need to put in place the actual workshop, but just perhaps to create a scalable format for it that can be remade anywhere. Like a sort of “Common Day” where members of the networks in their respective countries invite each other and local people to meet up and do this (see Weave and Reveal project by EU for similar or the Mending day of Fashion Revolution)
I don’t know if this makes any sense (?)
The goal would be to establish an exchange system that values knowledge and creativity in fashion over traditional currency.
Let me know what you all think. It could be exciting to explore it further, all together.

I think it makes a lot of sense and that is how I see commons working - supporting and feeding other commons and networks of commons through whatever means or value makes most sense in their context.
