Upcoming events!

Hi all,

Hope you are well. After perhaps a quiet start to the year in terms of OC.M activities, the ball is now rolling very fast! Perhaps you've seen via our newsletters that we've got a number of events coming up but I'll write it here too.

Firstly, we'll kick off next Wednesday with an event at Kairos in London! This is a participatory event and the amazing line up of speakers includes: anthropologist Sandra Niessen (FAN and RCDF); designer and commons researcher Alice Holloway (London Urban Textile Commons and The Remakery Makersapce); Fashion ecologist and textile systems designer, Zoe Gilbertson (Liflad CIC, Bast Fibre Network and South West Textile Commons); Garment maker, open source machinery builder and regenerative textile economy activist, Nick Evans (Fantasy Fibre Mill). This is an in-person event and there will be no recording.

Then we head to Dorset for Defashion Dorset! This is a 2 day event on the 16th and 17th hosted by Jenny Morisetti that brings together the local fashion ecosystem. A number of us will be talking on panels. On the Friday evening, FAN members, led by Sandra Niessen, will be hosting a dinner.

You'll see if you browse our website, it's had a Dorset / South-West England make-over in anticipation of Defashion Dorset. This new article up on the Journal explores some of the local clothing practices happening there. https://www.ourcommon.market/post/what-s-nourishing-dorset-s-thriving-hyperlocal-clothing-ecosystem

Sandra and I will be back in London on the 18th for the launch of the Degrowth Handbook. We'll be talking with the editors of the book specifically about the chapter on defashion and its relationship with degrowth.

For those not in the UK, do not despair! We have two online assemblies coming up too! Rather than these being events with speakers, they will be facilitated discussions between all attendees. This is a chance for you to be heard and to make connections. We are running the same event twice for different time zones.

At the end of June, a number of us will be off to Oslo for the Degrowth Conference where we'll be presenting a snapshot of the fashion commons landscape, hoping to bring more minds into this space.

We also meet every Wednesday for our general meeting. Please let us know if you'd like to join. And once a month, we have a speaker present and then lead a discussion - this could be you! Let us know if you'd like to attend or talk.

We hope to be able to connect with you in some way over the next couple of months. Do DM me if you have a specific question.

Please do share these events with any others you think may be interested. You can share via Instagram or Linkedin too.

Best,

Sara
